SKIN: See Kinship In Nature

Welcome to SKIN: See Kinship In Nature. William Wordsworth once said, "Come forth into the light of things, let Nature be your teacher."
SKIN is a set of loose parts materials that are eco dyed using the outer membrane of seasonal or readily available produce. Because they are produced through the waste by product of food consumption, these materials will be offered as they become available. You can follow SlowMaterials on Facebook, Twitter or on Instagram and they will be offered through the links that are posted there.
Eat or drink the food and dye with the waste. This material plays with the notion of 'the others' and it's not just about you and me, it brings the environment that we all live in and share a little closer and makes it personal. Bet you will never look at an orange in the same way again. SKIN materials embody the echoes of lost language of what is known and of knowhow on the land, of people, kinsfolk, and of familiar country, of the place that one knows, of kith and kinship. So whether a child uses this material as a forest fairy or gnome in their small world play or as a simple peg in a loose parts arrangement, SKIN will open up new possibilities for encounters through play.
